A lovely out of the way place that has a wonderful visitor center. It was the perfect stop to entertain a road weary child.
Great service and visitors center for a park that blew us away. We thought we were just stopping through to get our NPS passport stamped, but now we can't wait to come back for hiking. Don't miss the Main Overlook!
Well informed and interesting archives open to all. Nice area but best not to come in rain. a few walkway are in flood zone and about 1 - 2 inches water to walk through. Not so city look. Nice out of the way place to stop and slow down for a while.
Very nice place to learn about the New River and the watershed. They also have a wonderful native plant garden at the entrance.
The visitor center is part of the U.S. National Park Service with very knowledgeable rangers and staff. The center is rather unique in that it features sustainable design concepts for energy efficiency and resource conservation and lovely native plants are abundant there. There are lots of parking areas, picnic tables, and several restrooms. It's one of the best visitor centers I've seen in the 45 states I've visited.
